One day Workshop: Confidentiality and Record Keeping

The workshop covers some of the key areas of law in counselling and psychotherapy including:

• Confidentiality – what the law requires of practitioners
• Government and practice guidance on confidentiality
• Making and keeping records
• Data protection
• Freedom of Information
• Capacity and consent issues for vulnerable adults and children
• Good practice in sharing information between professionals

The workshop uses a variety of ways in which to explore these topics, including power-point presentations, group activities, participant discussion and case studies.

The Facilitator: Barbara Mitchels, LL.B., PhD., Dip Couns., UKRCP., is a solicitor in private practice. She is a Fellow of BACP and a psychotherapist with Watershed Counselling Service, Devon. As Director of Working with Children, Barbara also provides family work and child law consultancy in the UK and abroad. Her research and publications include books on law, trauma, therapy and peacemaking. She runs a web based legal advice service for therapists at http://www.therapylaw.co.uk.
