Level 6 JMC/Aim Awards

Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling

(Informed by Research) (Equivalent to undergraduate degree)

This qualification is fully accredited by the National Counselling Society (NCS). Successful graduates will automatically gain entry to the NCS Accredited  Register. Beginning Wednesday January 17th, 2018 from 6-9pm

Entry Requirement:

Students must hold a minimum of a level 4/5 in Counselling

 

This qualification will be taught over 140 guided learning hours. Students will be required to submit a research proposal as part of the assessment, as well as a dissertation of approximately 10000-12000 words on their chosen topic within counselling. This qualification will be attractive to employers in addition to your existing level 4/5 qualification, as students will have an opportunity to research in their area of interest in a specified specialised area of counselling.

 

Year one will consist of two modules:

1. Counselling Supervision, Ethical and Legal issues; duration 45 GLH

2. Research in counselling 75 GLH

Students can exit after successful completion of year one.

Year two will consist of 1 module:

1. Counselling research and dissertation of between 10000-12000 words

Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), states that: ‘Counsellor and psychotherapist education may be accessed via universities, institutes of further and higher education, and independent providers.’ In addition, these recommendations outline that: ‘As those entering the counselling and/or psychotherapy fields require understanding of a complex body of knowledge, clinical skills, self-awareness, analytical techniques and problem-solving skills, and the ability to evaluate evidence, arguments and assumptions to reach sound independent judgements, it is likely that they will need to be qualified to at least the level of a bachelor's degree with honours (level 6 on The framework for higher education qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland…’ (p.1).
