Here at JMC Counselling & Training, we know how daunting returning to adult education can be. So, we have designed this course in a way to ensure that students do not feel pressured in any way whatsoever.  The course is mainly information-based, meaning you can listen or contribute to the lectures. No student will be "put on the spot," as Tutors will only request those who want to engage in conversation to do so.

What you will learn

  • Counselling training is based on three main theoretical approaches: Humanistic, Psychodynamic, and Cognitive Behavioural Theory (CBT). You will learn a little about each and how these are used in counselling.
  •
  • Practical and generic skills are also necessary; again, participants will learn how these are utilised.
  • Finally, ethical considerations and boundaries in counselling are essential, so students will learn how these are used.

Discussions will also occur around many contexts and issues clients present in counselling. Some of which will include:

Suicide, Bereaved by Suicide, Trauma and PTSD, Addiction, Domestic Violence, Self Harm, Depression, Anxiety, issues around COVID-19 and many more.

This packed taster will undoubtedly give you what you need to decide whether you wish to progress with your counselling studies.

You will also learn a lot about theories and skills, and you can begin to put these to good use immediately.
